What is CELTA?
CELTA stands for Certificate in English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages. It is a professional qualification awarded by Cambridge English and is the most widely recognized and respected certifications for people who want to teach English as a second or foreign language.
Why choose CELTA?
CELTA is the best option if you're serious about teaching English anywhere in the world — either in your own country or abroad.
Here's why many people choose CELTA over other TEFL/TESOL certifications.
1. Internationally Recognized & Respected
- CELTA is moderated, quality controlled, and awarded by Cambridge English, part of the University of Cambridge.
- It's widely accepted by employers across the globe, and often listed as a preferred or required qualification for English language teaching jobs.
2. High Quality & Standardized
- CELTA centers are externally assessed to maintain quality and standardisation. When you have a CELTA certificate, prospective employers know exactly what training your have had.
- Whether you take it in London, Buenos Aires, or online, the training and assessment criteria are consistent.
3. Includes Real Teaching Practice
- You’ll teach real learners who are there to learn, not just do role-plays.
- You'll be observed and receive constructive feedback from professional and qualified teacher trainers — one of the most valuable parts of the course.
4. Solid Foundation in Teaching Skills
- Covers both theory and practice: lesson planning, classroom management, language analysis, and how to teach grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- It gives you practical tools you can use immediately in the classroom.
5. Career Opportunities
- Opens doors to jobs at reputable language schools like the British Council, International House, and others.
- CELTA is considered a stepping stone to advanced qualifications like the DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults).
6. Flexible Study Options
CELTA is available at Akcent IH Prague as:
- Full-time (usually 4–5 weeks)
- Part-time (over several weeks or months)
- Fully online or in-person
7. Suitable for Beginners
- You don’t need prior teaching experience, but
- teachers who have it can benefit enormously from CELTA, and add to their existing university teaching qualifications, either to learn more modern (now also online) classroom methods or to be coached and observed by experienced, Cambridge certified teacher trainers.
- You do need to be fluent in English to a C1 level, and usually at least 18 years old with a level of education that allows you to take on University-level work.
In Short:
If you want a globally respected, high-quality, and practical teaching qualification that gives you strong job prospects and the confidence to teach effectively, CELTA is the best choices you can make.
