FAQ
Can a student be an absolute beginner?
Although some schools open courses for beginners, they assume that the student already has some knowledge of the language. We recommend absolute beginners first attend a course in the Czech Republic – AKCENT International House Prague can help you choose a suitable course – and to go abroad afterwards.
How many hours a day are the lessons?
It depends on the student what kind of course he chooses. The courses offered last from 3 to 6 hours a day. It is possible to attend classes in the morning, afternoon, or evening.
Is teaching material included in the price?
It depends on the school you choose. In some schools, teaching material is included in the price. In others, it is necessary to pay a fee.
Is a social program part of the course?
Some courses are offered as special courses, for example, English + Golf. Some courses include 2 afternoons of a social program per week. Most schools offer some kind of social program most days and students can take part any time they choose and pay the required fee.
Are transport and insurance included in the price?
Neither transport nor insurance are included. We will be glad to inform you about the approximate prices of air or bus tickets. If you so desire, we can arrange transport for you. You pay the insurance directly to the chosen school or choose any suitable insurance available on the market in the Czech Republic.
What are the advantages of accommodation with a host family?
This kind of accommodation will enable you to communicate often in the language you are studying. You will learn about the customs that are typical for the people of the country and the host family will make you feel a part of their family.
What about meals?
It is possible to order only breakfast or half board with the host family. In some cases, full board is available. Most often students have half board on weekdays and full board at the weekend. If the student is interested in preparing their own meals, we can find a family who will let them use the kitchen.
What are the courses for children like?
Children's courses take place in the summer months, July and August. Children are divided into groups. Every day is made up of lessons, lunch break and an afternoon program. Children spend the evening with their host families, if there is no school program. They are provided with full board every day either with host families or in Residence Halls. It is possible to include basic insurance when you pay for the course. Transport to the chosen country is not included in the price but AKCENT International House Prague can arrange this for you.
How much pocket money should I give to the child?
Because children are provided with full board and drink, they will need money only for small items such as postcards, fruit, sweets, etc.
Can somebody hold the child's pocket money for them?
Yes, a manager at school can do that.
How old must the children be who want to attend residential courses abroad?
Courses are for children between 11,12, or 13 and 17 years, depending on the school.
Can children travel on their own?
Children under 14 cannot travel to and in Britain on their own and must be accompanied by a person over 16 years of age. It is possible to arrange for children travelling by air to be accompanied by a flight attendant. Most schools also arrange transport from the airport to the host family for a fee.
